Scope Note: 1875-1966. Alfred Pritchard Sloan, Jr. was an American automotive business executive, holding the positions of president, chairman, and CEO of General Motors Corporation. In 1943, he established the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, a philanthropic non-profit organization. He served as a trustee on the Board of Memorial Hospital and in 1945, a gift of $4 million from Sloan provided the initial funds for the construction and early operation of the Sloan Kettering Institute.
