Biographical / Historical
Reginald S. Coombe, who worked as senior vice president of the Hanover Bank from 1939 to 1958, began his association with Memorial Hospital when his daughter was admitted to the hospital for treatment in 1940 and died nine months later at 15 years old. In 1941, Coombe joined Memorial Hospital’s Board of Managers and later went on to serve as president and chairman of the board for 20 years. He was one of the five founders of the Sloan-Kettering Institute for Cancer Research. Awards received include the the Clement Cleveland Award of the American Cancer Society in 1958 and the Yale Medal for distinguished service. Coombe died May 2nd, 1976 at the age of 81.
