Scope Note: 1910-2004. Laurance Spelman Rockefeller was the fourth child of John D. Rockefeller, Jr. and Abby Aldrich Rockefeller. As a venture capitalist, philanthropist, and trustee of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, Rockefeller provided funding to various efforts in conservation, education, and medicine, including MSK. In 1947, Rockefeller joined the Board of Managers of Memorial Hospital, and went on to serve as Chairman of the Boards of Overseers and Managers from 1960 to 1982. At the time of his death, he was Honorary Co-Chairman of the Boards.
