Scope Note: C. Clifton Ling was born during World War II in Guilin, China, and immigrated to the United States for his college education. Ling received his PhD in nuclear physics from the University of Washington and began working in Memorial’s Laboratory of Physical Biology under Ed Epp, where he learned radiation biology and medical physics. Ling succeeded John Laughlin as chairman of the department of medical physics and later was granted emeritus status as a member of the Molecular Imaging and Therapy Physics (formerly Nuclear Medicine) Service of the Department of Medical Physics at MSK. Awards received include the AAPM Coolidge Gold Medal Award in 2004 and the ASTRO Gold medal in 2006.
