Scope Note: 1922-2003. Robert Alan Good was born in Minnesota and educated at the University of Minnesota, receiving his M.D. and Ph.D. degrees in 1947. Good went on to conduct research on the immune system at the University of Minnesota Medical School, where in 1962 he became professor in pediatrics, microbiology and pathology, later also serving as head of the Department of Pathology. in 1968, Good led the first successful human bone marrow transplant between people who were not identical twins. Good served as president of the Sloan-Kettering Institute from 1972 until 1982.
