Biographical / Historical
Karnofsky worked for 23 years at Memorial Hospital and served as head of the Division of Chemotherapy Research of Sloan-Kettering Institute. His research focused on chemotherapy and led to the development of various chemotherapeutic agents, particularly those used to treat childhood leukemias. In 1949, Karnofsky, in collaboration with other scientists, developed the Karnofsky Performance Scale.
