Biographical / Historical
Born in 1917, Bendich trained in nucleic acid biochemistry and was one of the establishing scientists of the Sloan Kettering Institute in 1947, working with nucleic acids and, in collaboration with other scientists, initiating a program on nucleoside synthesis and chemistry. Bendich worked with SKI for 32 years, also taking on the roles of Professor of Biochemistry and Chairman of the Biochemistry Unit in the Sloan-Kettering Division of the Cornell University Graduate School of Medical Sciences. Bendich died on September 12th, 1979, at the age of 62.
