Biographical / Historical
John Lawrence Pool, Jr. was born in 1907 in New York City, graduating from Princeton in 1930 (AB) and Columbia 1934 (MD). In addition to his career as a thoracic surgeon, Pool served as president of the New York Academy of Medicine and in 1968 served as president of the American Radium Society. An affiliate of Memorial Hospital, Pool taught as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at Cornell and Yale. He died April 19, 2005.
